Taking Care of God is a hybrid dance and theatre piece co-created by Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure and Kingdom Gospel Choir, between Kampala and Lausanne. The collaborative project bridges the gaps between “Church music” and “Club music”, aiming to develop a conversation on the the perception of spirituality in the world, the search for trance through rhythmes and the necessity of cross-cultural exchanges. Taking Care of God functions as an hybrid performance, a gesture of connection through celebration and collective care. The piece is exploring the intersections that exist between the religious scene and the atheistic scene, and their use of music and dance. Taking Care of God is a collective gesture affirming the beauty found in unity and cooperation, while making room for the individual trajectories of the performers. The project is challenging the practice, significance and delivery of hymns of adoration by merging them with the rhythms and codes of progressive and contemporary club music. Taking Care of God is produced by Eternal, and co-produced by the Arsenic theatre (Lausanne), Grütli (Geneva), Gessnerallee (Zürich), Dampfzentrale (Bern), Kaserne (Basel), Südpol (Luzern).
A Co-production in the frame of RESO – Réseau de Danse Suisse.

With music, performance art, and film, Soraya Lutangu Bonaventure is attempting to materialize feelings dwelling between empathy, mourning, togetherness and celebration. Her practice allows the creation of practical and speculative languages while finding new ways to belong in the culture continuum of Otherness. By addressing questions of displacement and the diasporic imaginary within a decolonial context, Bonaventure builds expressive systems of repairs that value the poetic notions of Blackness, queerness, technology, and spirituality. In 2019, encouraged by a global accolade regarding her work in both underground and institutional spaces, Bonaventure decided to broaden the spectrum of her practice by creating Eternal, a cultural company based in Geneva.
